In John Warner’s “Yes, Small Class General Education Courses Do Make Money,” he challenged people to calculate their revenue to the college. So we thought we’d try. Here are our numbers:
Here are our assumptions:
2/3 of students are in-state, 1/3 out-of-state.
We estimated our salaries cost the university $40,000 with benefits (John Warner estimated benefits cost an extra 20%).
In-state Tuition per credit hour= $316
Out-of-state Tuition per credit hour=$794
With the proposed 5/5 load, we cost the university 2.4 mil, but we bring in 21.7 mil, profit of 19.3 mil.
So, moving to the 5/5 WITHOUT a pay increase costs the university NOTHING and makes them 4.6 mil in additional revenue.
