4 classes x 25 students = 100 students x 3 essays = 300 essays per semester

5 classes x 25 students = 125 students x 3 essays = 375 essays per semester

(= +75 essays per semester x2 = 150 more essays per year)

5 classes x 3 assignments x 5 pages = 1875 pages per semester

4 classes = 100 essays to grade per assignment x 15 min per essay = 25 hours of grading

5 classes = 125 essays to grade per assignment x 15 min per essay = 31.25 hours of grading

(= +6.25 hours of grading per assignment = +18.75 hours per semester = +37.5 hours per year)

*Impact = essays will take more than one week to grade; conflicts with NSEE “Benchmarks of Effective Educational Practice” of “prompt written or oral feedback from faculty on academic performance”)

5 classes = 125 students x 15 min conference = 31.5 hours of conferencing

(= +6.5 more hours needed to hold one conference with students each semester)

*Impact = Instructors will need to cancel more classes to hold conferences or, more likely, will forgo holding conferences at all; conflicts with NSEE “Benchmarks of Effective Educational Practice” of student engagement with faculty outside of class)
